Several days trips

NOTE: for these longer trips, food and lodging are NOT included in the price. This means you have to pay for your meals and accommodation on top of the given prices, which cover the car, the driver, the fuel and the time the driver spends with you. Food and lodging for the driver will be covered by the driver himself. Ask Axum for information concerning the accommodations available, their prices and booking…

ZIWAY (like mentioned in the excursions) plus a stop in DEBRE ZEYIT lakes on the way back

Same trip as described in the excursions, with more time to enjoy the landscapes, the historical sites, the lake and small town of Ziway, the hippos, spending the night in a nice little new hotel close to the lake. On the second day, there will be a stop for lunch in Debre Zeyit, around one of the different lakes there, to get lunch in a nice place with amazing view on the lake. You can also take some time for a swim in a nice swimming pool…

LAKE LANGANO

The trip to Langano takes two days, but there is also a possibility to extend this trip so that you can spend several days in Langano, which is one of the most beautiful lakes in Ethiopia, and the only one where you can swim without any risk… The landscape is beautiful, the hotel extremely comfortable, the food excellent… there is a beach along the lake, a bar etc. It sounds like real holidays… The trip is about 400 km both ways. The road is very good. There is a possibility to come through Butajira and go back through Ziway, so that you don’t go twice the same way. Booking for the hotel is absolutely necessary, and the place is always sold out in the week-ends, so you should preferably go during the week!

WONDO GENET and AWASSA

Trip of three days, 520km both ways… Wondo Genet is a wonderful place with luxuriant nature, banana trees etc. monkeys and hot springs. There is a possibility to swim and to get lunch there, or even to spend the night in a simple hotel there. Awassa is a nice town around a beautiful lake, with a nice atmosphere and a fascinating fish market, early in the morning; there are a lot of hotels and restaurants and the city is agreeable. On the way to Wondo Genet, you can have lunch in Langano and get an idea of the lake too.

HARAR

Trip of 4 days, about 1000 km both ways, to one of the most spectacular towns in Ethiopia, through amazing landscapes. Possibility to make a stop in Dire Dawa, another beautiful city… Harar is a very surprising town, with a very special architecture. You will like the market everywhere in the old town, you will visit the house where Rimbaud has lived, and you will enjoy the different way people are dressed, very colorful compared to the other parts of Ethiopia. Harar is an experience as such…
 

LALIBELA

This marvelous trip requires at least 5 days, to go there and visit by road, through wonderful landscapes. About 1600 km as a whole, but unforgettable!

Lalibela is surely the most famous place in Ethiopia, with the very special breathtakening churches, with a fantastic holy atmosphere, prayers and songs nearly all day long: you should not miss it!!! This is just admirable and one of the most fascinating place in whole Africa! Note that the entrance price to the churches and the guide is not included.

You can go through Dessie, spend two nights in Lalibela and come back through the lake Tana, Bahir dar and the Nile gorges…
 

BAHIR DAR and LAKE TANA

This trip will also take 5 days, it is about 1120 km long both ways… The road goes through the Portuguese bridge and Debrelibanos monastery (you spend the night in Debre Markos) down to the Nile gorge and its famous brand new bridge, and then to Bahir Dar, a charming city along the Tana lake. You will have time to visit one or two churches built on small islands on the Tana lake, and you can make a boat trip to see the special papyrus boats traditionally used by the fishermen… If you are a bit lucky, you will also see some hippos! Entrance price to the churches, guide and boat tour are not included.

8 Days tour to LALIBELA, GONDER, BAHIR DAR

This extensive tour will take you around  the whole North of Ethiopia, along the historical route. The trip will take you to Lalibela, Bahir Dar and Lake Tana (See previous trips), and further to the North to Gonder.

The whole trip is a circuit of 8 days, which means you don’t go twice the same way.

ARBA MINCH

This will take you 5 days, as the way is about 1150 km both ways. At the moment, this trip will not be proposed, as the road in the South , down to Arba Minch is being rebuilt, which means hundreds of km of rough road at present… too bad for you… and for the car!

Arba Minch means “40 springs“, it is a charming city along a beautiful lake, and is the limit to the south tribes. The lake is “hosting” a very famous place called crocodile market, where dozens of huge crocos can be seen sleeping in the sun. You can have a boat trip to watch them, and even some hippos!

The nature around the lake is fantastic, very green, with a lot of fruits growing, bananas, mangos etc. You can buy them straight along the road.

You can also climb on a nearby mountain (by car!) to visit the Dorze tribe and their village, where you will be allowed to visit some beautiful traditional Tukuls which are completely different from the “usual” ones, and you will be able to watch at the women preparing the “enset” (wrong banana), you can go to the market and watch how the people weave nice scarves, etc.
